TCEB prepares Bt300 million budget request for the bid to host World Expo 2020 08-01-2012

President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Akapol Sorasuchart, said the bureau is preparing to work in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish a budget to prepare for bidding for the World Expo 2020. The initial proposal will be for Bt300 million.

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB is moving forward to foster unity from the public. TCEB’s latest event: the ‘World Expo 2020: Believe in Thailand’ is being organised jointly with the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) and major shopping centres: Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery. The event will debut a multimedia exhibition, featuring the motto “We want Expo".

The primary feasibility studies have been completed and the findings submitted to the Thai Cabinet for approval. With three provinces up for consideration to be the host city for the Expo - Ayutthaya, Chonburi and Chiang Mai - Thailand has not only put its efforts into these feasibility studies but has also placed great importance on working closely with the Bureau International des Exposition (BIE) in order to ensure the most suitable site is chosen for the World Expo bid.

The World Expo 2020 Logo and Mascot Competition will accept entries from 6 June – 15 July 2011. Finalists must present their entries in person and winners will be announced on 22 July 2011. The award winners will receive a 100,000 baht cash prize and a trophy cup.
